Adventure 3, Part II

Conclusion

It had been a fun game in principle, but my enjoyment was somewhat diminished by the fact that the game had been too easy. I'm not sure it was because of the level alone; I'm used to more active AIs even on Prince or Monarch games. The AIs were extremely tame in this game! Monty had been the only one declaring war on Mansa repeatedly, and actually managed to take some cities. Apart from that, everything had been quiet. But the AIs staying at peace didn't mean they would have been a danger tech-wise, oh no! They were horribly backwards; Hatty being the only one with at least some space parts at game's end. What had been strange as well was that half of Huayna's lands were unimproved when I invaded them! What had he been doing all the time?!?

But I liked the scoring system very much. These are the most enjoyable Epics for me usually: The ones with really crazy variant rules, or those with complex and innovative scoring systems. Thanks Sirian, and I hope we'll see more of these!

A word on the combat changes patch 1.52 had brought us: I've come to the conclusion now that I don't like them. I've fought wars with old units against modern ones under the new patch, and thanks to this game now fought a war with a tech lead. I really liked the old way better; in my Clan Wars game for example, my superior forces had been more easily overrun by lots and lots of obsolete units, which I liked. This game however, I moved medium-sized stacks to enemy cities and had to suffer lots of counter-attacks, but I very rarely lost a unit.

To repeat Arathorn's mantra: Tech is king. Tech über alles. This is too simple a formula for an otherwise complex game. Now the tech leader has an even easier time, which I don't like and which hopefully will be changed back in one of the next patches.
